Currently under contract to complete a book entitled The Language of Manmade Minds: A History of Computer Programming. Chapters 1-4 can be supplied as writing samples both in text and audio-book formats.

08/14 – 07/24 Southwest Baptist University

Started in 2014 as an Assistant Professor. Promoted to full Professor of Sociology in Spring 2024. Granted tenure in 2018. Has ten years of evaluation forms of classroom teaching signed by other faculty. 73% of the ratings on these forms are in best (“Above Average”) category. Courses taught include Introduction to Sociology, Gerontology, Criminology, Social Welfare Policy, Social Problems, Elementary Statistics, Human Diversity, Introduction to Research Methods, Death & Dying and The Science of Wellbeing.

09/11- 08/14 Singapore University of Technology and Design

Senior Lecturer in Humanities Arts and Social Sciences at Singapore University of Technology and Design. Courses have included World Civilizations and Texts and Human Development: Theory and Practice. At the end of the 1st semester the average overall score for instructors on this course was 4.3. Dr. Truscott’s three groups awarded him 4.4, 4.6, and 4.9. Research interests include choice modeling of consumer buying preferences and symbolic regression.

03/07-02/11 Ateneo de Manila University

He was a full-time faculty member of Ateneo de Manila University (offered tenure) with the formal rank of Assistant Professor. Courses taught included: Introduction to Sociology and Anthropology, Communications Technology, Management Information Systems, Introduction to Multimedia and Technical Writing.

11/98-12/05 Eric Marder Associates Inc., New York

Eric Marder Associates (EMA) was a leading market research company that lists many fortune 100 firms in its client list. On arrival at the firm its research methods where 100 per cent paper based with almost all research done through mailed questionnaires. While at EMA wrote the software that transitioned the firm to being a mainly Internet-based company. While working at EMA I taught part time at the The King’s College (www.tkc.edu) in Manhattan.

Research Grants

2008-09 Ateneo de Manila University awarded a Scholarly Word Faculty Grant to produce A Democratic Tax-Benefit Model of the Philippines.

2012-13 SUTD-MIT International Design Center – A Survey of Indian Doctors – Optimization of Product Features. Awarded $97,000 SGD to compare and contrast various forms of conjoint choice-modeling of consumer buying preference

Leadership / Initiation of Voluntary Projects

At All Souls Church Langham Place, London, (John Stott’s Church) was part of a team of four people that set up a ministry for the homeless which served meals from a van and opened a Saturday day center. This served about 200-200 people weekly. This ministry continues to the present day (https://asstc.org.uk/aslan).

At Redeemer Presbyterian Church organized a high-profile fund-raising event called “The Builder’s Ball” that raised money and awareness for Redeemer’s own social action arm called “Hope for New York” and Habitat for Humanity New York. This involved managing a large team of volunteers and setting up a credit card payment system for the event tickets.

Hobbies / Interests

Performed stand-up comedy in New York City and Leicester Square Comedy Store (I was such a success in London and New York that I was able to land a job in Bolivar, Missouri.)

Participated in the Republic Triathlon (The “Tiger Tri”) 2020-2023 as part of triathlon teams. Competed as an individual in the 2024 “Tiger Tri” and the “Tri at the Y” (Pat Jones YMCA). All speeds / results published online. Link to most recent online triathlon results.
